The common passion flower, twining its way in beautifully turned delicate filigree, with each of the chhela rakhiphool guarded by two large frosted leaves the midrib and veins of which are also chhela. The fern-like fronds replicate the vine's vigorous tendrils and we see a large opening bud between the flower-and-leaf clusters. Edging the kankan is a plain polished line of the plant's ovoid fruit, cut in half, with a little gathering of gold seeds to crown them.
Painstakingly handcrafted in lustrous 22K yellow gold, this hinged kankan is an extraordinary example of the contemporary interpretation of a very traditional ornament.
Rakhiphool is the local name of the passiflora caerulea, presumably because it looks like a large decorative rakhi. And it's merely opportune that we could bring you this in the right season. In truth though, the plant flowers year round and is strong and healthy through every season : all qualities that we hope life blesses you with, and that which we have tried to imbibe in this confidently classic modern jewel.
