The "nocturnal garden of love that comes alive with the rains" is eternal. You've loved it too much for it to make itself anything less than immortal so that all who call it their own may partake of its magic and thus become timeless themselves. A commission for a lightweight kanbala led to this diminutive design where the usual and powerful presence of the matched Mayurpur Jhapta Earring (posted on 27th August,2015) and Naksha Kanbala (from 9th July,2013) combine to give us an ornament of grace and class and of truly democratic disposition as well. Note the blossoming kurchi right in the middle, the pair of love-struck peacocks flanking it, and the six-petalled flowers all around. These repeated elements, along with the padma roundels of the pasha and the single merry-go-round jhumka beneath each earring, add up to an impossible-to-resist proposition for a halka goyna that still has the carriage of royalty. The size of the kanbala is smaller than those that we normally do, and since we're the ones who led the charge for the revival of this ---- and any other that needed help to bring them back from the brink of extinction ---- form of jewellery, the questions should be ours to ask whether the earrings pass muster or not. Fact is, the kanbala may be smallish compared to the others but it has as big a heart as any, if not a wee bit bigger. And that's good news for those who might balk at the current gold prices and feel the need to save rather than invest. For ornaments such as this pared-down, full naksha, solid gold kanbala, 'any time is gold time' Crafted with care in pure 22K gold by hands grown old with meticulous manufacture and incessant practice, the Mayurpur Kanbala, through its superb naksha and light weight is as endearing an ornament as is the original Mayurpur necklace. Monsoon is the season peacocks like most. With this little jewel, we could turn that way as well.
