Something needs to be done. Romance is dying by each internet hour, losing ground at ferocious pace to things like online Black Friday sales. Black indeed! Gone are the days when a jhapta could be worn to music soirees and housewarming parties, let alone grand wedding ceremonies. Ephemeral images on mobile phones might still reveal the brave who'd sport such an ornament on their head even if to elicit 'likes' and platitudinous comments. And given what's been doing the rounds for months now, the future seems uncertain.
Time then to set things straight. The jhapta makes a comeback as luxe and lissome earrings even though they're robust of volume. But, note carefully: there are nine new moons in each jhapta, the bottom seven and the solitary crescent below them harnessed with star (there's one gone amiss on the right earring) studded kamal chains to the main crescent moon. A katai paisley and a granulated infill characterise the smaller moons alternately and each has a ball border on their lower edge. The serrated split-ball fringe is welcome, especially its light tintinnabulation. A larger faceted ball in the central jhur makes things interesting.
The secret to this arrangement is in the 260-days sacred Mayan calendar, Tzolkin, derived from "the Mayan arithmetical model of astronomy applied to numerological timekeeping for divinatory purposes." In other words, we've co-opted a Mayan nine-moon cycle ---- a lunar series that can keep time and reveal the future ---- and incorporated it into a remarkable earring that follows the jhapta form but also represents time as a nonet of crescent moons speeding to eternity.
