Modelled on the jhapta-dul and created in volume like a kanbala, this disciplined, dramatic two-step earring is blessed with the gift of space and balance, the two crescentic tiers hanging freely on rings. The Priya necklace, much admired by the first-time customer who got this made bespoke, was asked to be referenced for its elements, and so you see graduated Neem-Chameli flowers crowd both the new moons. The detailing, as usual, is noteworthy, and perhaps the single greatest reason why the earrings succeed and are distinct. For instance, note how the first crescent has a calibrated ball-karai border on both edges while the second goes without the karai on the lower edge because more space is required to allow the pearl-and-gold ball-jhur fringe its play. A six-petalled flower holds sway in the centre of the larger crescent, each petal of which holds within it a sat-karaiphul. This breaks the monotony of continuous Neem-Chameli rows and introduces a significant polished surface among the more intricate patterns. It also allows for a pearl to be included in the middle that then balances those of the jhur and the one in the centre of the topa-ball pasha, polished as well, that also lines things up with an outlined flower that's mirrored in the canopy of the pearl drop at the bottom of the earring.
Clean lines, generous voids that make them airy, pearl touches on rich guinea gold, and the fragrance of cork flowers blooming way beyond their season — all these attributes result in making the earrings majestic and unique. Handcrafted with skill and utter sincerity, they're named — as tradition demands — after the daughter (for whom they're meant) of the customer who ordered them.
