Amongst us Indians, the reasons for wearing precious jewellery can broadly be stated to be cultural, symbolic, talismanic, to affirm a social position, or for decoration, or to simply make us feel beautiful. The goyna becomes especially meaningful when we imbue it with our feelings and sentiments and invest it with new memories.
But unlike the way it used to be in the western world, the motive of cherishing memories of a loved one doesn't will us to a piece of fine personal jewellery. With this pendant, that's changed forever.
We take pride in the fact that we're either the singular author of our ornaments or co-authors with you when we're designing bespoke. The individuality and independence with which we conceive, create and then birth our jewellery we consider a divine blessing.
But we're not the author of today's jewel or its story. The unassuming but spirited lady whose voice you will hear after this introduction is a first-time customer. This 18K gold pendant set with four brilliant-cut diamonds is of her design that she ordered us to manufacture for her. We are merely the maker of this small but monumental jewel (why monumental, you will know as you read) and as such have minimised and dimmed our name and logo in deference to its coruscating sacredness.
This is the story of Aru-Soma, in her own words :
"Hi, my name is Pallavi Salvi. I am a teacher. I like to read books, listen to music, watch movies/ web series, and travel.
Last year I lost my beloved husband, Arijit Ghosh, to Covid. He too was a teacher. He left a lucrative corporate career to follow his passion for teaching.
I wanted to make something which symbolises our love and decided to make a pendant with our names . . . what we fondly used to call each other. He called me SOMA which is short for SOulMAte. I cherish this pendant which gives me hope that one day we will be together again.
I came to A Sirkar as they are well known for quality and craftsmanship. They were extremely helpful and professional. A big thank you to A Sirkar Jewellers."
